CONGRATULATIONS TO KNSJ SHOW HOST SUSAN TAYLOR FOR HER POEM SELECTED BY “HAIKUNIVERSE”
Wildfires sea to sea
They’ve taken the lifeboats
Susan talks about her poem written in haiku form: The haiku came to mind from news stories. East and West Coast fires. Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. I played with the juxtaposition of wildfires and water. Post-election metaphor intended with Wildfire Trump winning, and Republicans taking our freedoms, our protections, our “life boats.” The conciseness of haiku allows for a big idea using few words.
Poet and author Susan Taylor is the host of THE ELECTRIC PICNIC, a show focusing on local writers about poetry, prose, and spoken word. She has also interviewed poets and prose writers, as well as lyricists-musicians and newspaper reporters-writers from around the country. Susan brings into the conversations reflections on the place creative writing has in society, its healing powers, how it connects people and a way to learn about one another and see the world through the eye of others. The Electric Picnic is heard exclusively on KNSJ–Mondays 8-9am, Wednesdays 3-4pm, Saturdays 7-8pm.
About Susan Taylor. Susan is a wife, mother, and six-time grandmother. She loves living in a diverse and friendly neighborhood in San Diego, and can be seen walking her dog Duffy to coffee shops and happy hours. Her poems can also be found on haikuuniverse.com, thepoetryhighway.com, and in the San Diego Anthology of Poetry, and Verbatim Bookstore.
